UAB was founded in 1968. The Escuela Superior de Protocolo is affiliated to Escuela Internacional de Protocolo which was born in 1996. It consists of a network of centres placed in Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Granada, Córdoba, Elche, Valladolid, Oviedo, Palma de Mallorca, Zaragoza, Argentina, Budapest (Hungary) and Brussels (Belgium). It is the first centre of the world to be specialised in teaching Protocol, Institutional Relations and Organisation, Planning and Production of Events. It is also the first centre to offer University Degrees in Protocol and Institutional Relations and in Organisation and Production of Events, as well as the Double Degree including both disciplines.

Protocol is a complex professional field that must compile wide knowledge in several subjects to grant the success. It is not simply a set of rules and suggestions on how to behave in society. The ESPRI teaches a type of protocol that derives from the group of rules, techniques and traditions needed in order to organise any type of event for public or private institutions; a modern and innovative type of protocol that, at the same time, is respectful with and aware of different cultures and traditions; the type of protocol that is highly considered by all private and public institutions.
